    Worldwide, the average water availability per person is close to 7,000 cubic metres per person per year; in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, it is about 1,200 cubic metres. With the population expected to grow from nearly 300 million in 2008 to almost 500 million in 2025, the already dismal per capita availability of water is expected to halve by 2050.

    Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) launched a new 132 KV main Substation with a capacity of 150 Megavolt Ampere in the Consulate area, Bur Dubai during the second quarter of this year. The cost of this substation is around Dhs135m and is intended to secure the ever-growing demand for electricity for different purposes.
  • UAE set to issue global tender for nuclear fuel purchase 30 July 2011, AME Info
    The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corp (Enec) is planning to issue an international tender to buy nuclear fuel needed to begin operating the country's nuclear plants, Reuters has reported. The nuclear regulator will agree to contracts for obtaining the uranium, converting it and enriching the fuel for use in its plants' nuclear reactors. The UAE has said it expects to start its first nuclear power plant in 2017.

Terry spent the first 22 years of his career with BICC Cables, 1st half based in the UK and then the 2nd part located around the Gulf in Qatar, Bahrain and later on in Saudi Arabia where he was appointed their Country Manager from 1987. Repatriated in 1991 before returning to Dubai in 1996. Appointed Regional Director of The EIC in 2004, setting up their regional office after spending 11 years with CMP Products, a UK manufacturer of cable terminations that focussed on the oil & gas industries. He holds a Diploma in Marketing and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

The EIC is the leading trade association for UK companies supplying goods and services to the energy industries worldwide. They have around 650 member companies and provide member companies with the capability to understand, identify and pursue global business opportunities. The membership comprises contractors and suppliers from all areas of the energy sector who make a significant contribution to the UK economy, employing in aggregate around 1 million and generating £100 billion in revenues from their UK operations.

 

Mark Preece

Mark is the Director of Electricity Networks at the Regulation and Supervision Bureau in Abu Dhabi. The Bureau regulates water; wastewater and electricity industries in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Mark is predominantly focussed on the regulation of the electricity distribution and transmission networks within the emirate as well as a sector wide responsibility for Health and Safety on behalf of the Bureau.

Mark has 24 years of utility sector experience and prior to joining the Bureau in October, occupied the position of Managing Director at United Utilities Middle East located in the UAE. His previous experience includes Director of Business Change and Electricity Operations Director with United Utilities, a UK based regulated water and electricity, private utility company. He is a Chartered Electrical Engineer and has a BSc (Hons) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from Manchester University and an MBA. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Jörn Kröpelin is currently working for EnBW – the third largest utility company in Germany with more than 21.000 employees - since June 2006 and the responsible program leader for one of the largest Smart Grid pilots in Europe (MeRegio). Beforehand he was responsible for the nationwide market introduction of Smart Meter in different brands and the implementation of a card-based customer loyalty program. His career history led him from some international IT- and strategy consulting companies over heading a branch office of a large advertising corporate group to leading restructuring programs in the IT business segment.

 

Frank Wouters

Frank Wouters is responsible for the development of utility-scale renewable energy projects worldwide. These projects include the 100 MW Shams 1 solar CSP project with Abengoa and Total in the UAE, the 630 MW London Array offshore wind project with EON and Dong in the UK and three Concentrated Solar Power plants constructed through Torresol in Spain, among which Gemasolar, the first commercial - scale solar energy plant supplying electricity 24 hours per day.

He has over 20 years of experience in the renewable energy, chemical and energy efficiency sectors. Frank has held several senior management positions in many leading organizations in the fields of renewable energy and sustainability including Evelop International BV, Netherlands and Sol Holding AG, Germany.

He holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Delft University of Technology, Netherlands.
